Mingus High School Competition

Let My Children Hear Music, Inc. (The Charles Mingus Institute) is pleased to announce:

THE 2010 MINGUS HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION & FESTIVAL
Saturday through Monday, February 13-15, 2010

The Competition is on Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Manhattan School of Music.
Clinics will be held all day Saturday, February 13, 2010.
(Please note for scheduling: Monday is President's Day holiday.)

  • The Competition was open to high school Combos and Big Bands nationwide.
  • Both Combos and Big Bands are subdivided into Regular high schools and Specialized schools and programs.
  • Twelve finalists were selected from recordings submitted for prescreening adjudication, three finalists from each: Regular Combo, Specialized Combo, Regular Big Band, Specialized Big Band.
  • Adjudicators and clinicians include: Gunther Schuller, Justin DiCioccio, James Newton, Andrew Homzy, Christian McBride, Conrad Herwig, Vincent Herring, Boris Kozlov, Donny McCaslin, Robin Eubanks, Donald Edwards, Ku-umba Frank Lacy, David Kikoski, Kenny Rampton. They will also host a full day of clinics and special performances.
  • New Mingus Big Band charts available. Combos will select from Mingus lead sheets.
  • Special awards for outstanding soloists, student arrangers, and individual sections.
