MUSIC SELECTION GUIDANCE
More information, including sound files and other materials
will be posted here so check back.
BIG BANDS: You will make your chart selections
on the application. To the left, you will find more information
about Simply Mingus charts. On
the Hal Leonard site there are sound files for each of the
Simply Mingus charts.
As stated on the application, you will select 3 charts from
the following 4 categories, only 1 per category. Either Simply
Mingus or the original Mingus Big Band orchestration (in
bold) is fine for performance. More audio files and
score samples will be posted here shortly to assist selection
for application.
(NOTE: You are not locked in to performing the exact selections
you make on the application. If you already own a chart listed,
you may select another to try out, or you may later purchase
another chart to perform. But your recorded entry must be
3 charts from this list, one from each category.)
COMBOS: you will receive a packet of ALL
of the following Mingus lead sheets, from which you will select
3 to arrange and perform. Please vary your selections by tempo,
keys, and moods to make your experience more musically rewarding
and to demonstrate your ensemble's range. More audio files
will be posted here shortly to assist selection for the competition.
